We can tailor a plan that fits your needs, whether that is a development day for your whole staff or focused sessions within a department. We can talk directly to your students and their parents. Mix and match the sessions that are right for your school.
Teachers want practical advice that is evidence based. We offer a number of sessions based on those two things.
Six sessions covering student engagement, the science of focus, memory, and retrieval practicwith all of your staff on an in-service day.
Six sessions covering student engagement, the science of focus, memory, and retrieval practice with a department or focused group. Allows for more brainstorming within a focused discipline.
Some teachers have questions during a presentation, but they don't want to take up everyone's time asking them. A large group presentation in the morning followed by discussions with individuals or pairs in the afternoon will give your teachers the best of both worlds.
You may not have time to set aside an entire day. That's no problem if you are within reasonable driving distance from Raleigh, NC. I can come multiple times and do shorter sessions (e.g. 3 afternoons of 2 hours each). That allows you to have flexibility within the group as people can attend whichever days work within their schedule.
When I was a teacher, my favorite thing to do was to have individual conversations with students about their study habits. The number one question I got from middle school and high school parents was, "How can we help now that they are more independent, but not fully?" Your school can host time for parents and students to meet with me for advice on that topic
If you have a large number of students who need to hear practical advice about effective study strategies, I will present at an assembly.
While large groups benefit a lot of people, those who need help the most will benefit from one on one conversations. I will meet with individual students to ask how they currently study and give advice on how to improve the effectiveness of their strategies. At the end of 25 minutes, I'll email a summary to their parents so they will be able to better reinforce at home.
The most common question parents asked me at parent teacher conferences was “How can we help?” I provide practical advice about how they can create a good environment at home for effective study habits to thrive.
